The Great British Bake Off Is Heading to Netflix

There are plenty of American fans of hit U.K. TV show The Great British Bake Off, perhaps because it is refreshingly unlike most of this country’s cooking competitions: the contestants are polite to one another, the judges are stern but fair and their eyes often twinkle, the cake is made of cake and not spam plus cereal bars repurposed in only 20 minutes with items from the pantry allowed.

And now, The Guardian reported on Thursday, Netflix has acquired the rights to stream the Channel 4 show in the United States. On August 31, last year’s series, the one with new hosts Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding and judge Prue Leith, will be available to subscribers. The upcoming series, which premieres on Tuesday in the U.K. will be available later this year. Plus, Netflix will also show an additional season next year.

The Great British Baking Show was previously aired by the BBC in the U.K. and PBS in the U.S., but the partnership between the two networks expired when the program moved to Channel 4.
