On Wednesday, a federal judge ruled that George Garofano will serve eight months in prison, followed by a three-year period of supervision, for his involvement in a phishing scheme that allowed him to hack into 240 Apple iCloud accounts. Garofano pleaded guilty in April.
According to the Guardian, a memo from the prosecution stated that not old did Garofano hack into private online accounts for 18 months and obtain access to their photos, but he “may have also sold them to other to earn ‘extra income.’”
The other three men who were charged in the phishing scheme are already behind bars. The last one before Garofano, Edward Majerczyk, was sentenced to nine months in prison in January.
