- The Justice Department sued California again on Monday, this time over a law that was passed attempting to protect public lands from being sold for energy development. California Attorney General Xavier Becerra has filed dozens of lawsuits against the federal government since Trump took office. The law gives the state the “right of first refusal” over the sale or exchange of federal lands, which the Justice Department is calling unconstitutional. [BuzzFeed]

- The Supreme Court ruled in favor of a police officer who shot a woman outside her home in Tucson. “Its decision is not just wrong on the law; it also sends an alarming signal to law enforcement officers and the public,” Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote in her dissent. “It tells officers that they can shoot first and think later, and it tells the public that palpably unreasonable conduct will go unpunished.” [New York Times]
