Yesterday morning at the annual Billboard Women in Music brunch, musical powerhouse/android rebel leader Janelle Monáe was honored with the Billboard Rising Star Award for the mark she made with her fantastic 2013 album Electric Lady.

As a part of the celebration of all things Monáe, Glasgow band CHVRCHES (who are quite the rising rising stars themselves these days) were asked to perform a Janelle cover — with the original artist’s blessing — in her honor.
The result is this slowed-down, synthed-up version of Monáe’s energetic “Tightrope” and, while the CHVRCHES version doesn’t even come close to touching the original, it’s definitely a unique twist that was good enough to get Monáe dancing.
That said, the CHVRCHES cover is a little mopey and no way to start a weekend so please, end your Friday with this instead:
