This incredible Harriet Tubman story will make you appreciate today's $20 bill announcement even more

Splinter

On Wednesday, the Treasury Department announced that Harriet Tubman would replace Andrew Jackson on the $20. Right as the news broke, The Atlantic’s Yoni Appelbaum tweeted out a story that makes this development especially poignant.

Tubman once demanded $20—close to $1,000 in today’s cash—to secure the freedom of her parents. She asked a prominent abolitionist for the money, and when he refused, she staged a sit in.

Prescient.
