Meryl Streep, James Corden, Nicole Kidman, Awkwafina, Ariana Grande, Keegan-Michael Key, and Andrew Rannells are teaming up for a new Netflix project, which Deadline reports is a Ryan Murphy-helmed adaptation of the Broadway musical The Prom. Or is it? It sounds like a ruse for Corden’s biggest episode of “Carpool Karaoke” yet.
Ariana Grande and Awkwafina bring obvious musical talent to the mix, as does Andrew Rannells. Meryl Streep already proved that you can pay her enough to make an entire movie centered around fitting in as many ABBA songs as possible into an hour and 49 minutes, and I’ll be Nicole Kidman and Keegan-Michael Key have a price too.
Netflix can say whatever they want, but I’m ready to see these five actors and James Cordon cram themselves into an SUV and sing a chorus version of “thank u, next” in about a year and six months. The arc of the universe bends gently towards more and longer episodes of “Carpool Karaoke,” and I’ve accepted this as my fate.
