Tiffany “New York” Pollard, a reality TV veteran who’s still doing reality TV, has been selling grim t-shirts on her site that read “David Is Dead,” casually referring to David Bowie. If that wasn’t already distasteful, it seemed even more so now that her former cast mate David Gest has died.
Gest was found dead in a Four Seasons hotel in London early Tuesday, at which point Pollard’s t-shirt was still available for sale on her site. Pollard’s rep insists the shirt was an unfortunately timed coincidence and they’ve since been removed.
The shirts were originally intended as a joke made in reference to Pollard’s freak-out in the recent season of Celebrity Big Brother U.K. The scene below shows the moment when Angie, Bowie’s ex-wife, tells Pollard that Bowie has died (“David is dead,” Angie whispers); Pollard mistakenly thinks she means their housemate David Gest and starts hollering.
Pollard was apparently unaware of Gest’s death and retweeted the correction from her PR team.
