The news was announced by executive producer Tina Fey at Wednesday’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt FYSEE panel, who according to Deadline said:
“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was one of the first original comedy series on Netflix, and now it will be its first interactive comedy event. Fans will be able to make choices on behalf of our characters, taking different story paths with, of course, different jokes. I think it’s a great fit for our show and will be a great way to officially complete the series.”
Like its non-interactive original, the special will be created and executive produced by Fey and Robert Carlock, and will of course include its primary cast members—Ellie Kemper, Tituss Burgess, Jane Krakowski and Carol Kane.
While this will be the first comedy on the platform to enter the interactive waters, Netflix is not new to the model: Black Mirror: Bandersnatch was reportedly a major success, even though everyone hated it.
