​Y/N: J. Lo Struggles On a Ballad, Big Sean Does Beyoncé Right

N: “Feel the Light,” from the Home soundtrack, sounds bright and idealistic, exactly what you’d expect for an animated kids’ movie. Sadly, J. Lo’s not the right person for a ballad. [Idolator]

Y: Big Sean does a fine job freestyling over what’s possibly my favorite Beyoncé song, “Me, Myself & I.” His version is all good and smooth until his speed bars at the end. [Billboard]

Y: I’m almost convinced anyone can sound dope rapping over Nicki Minaj’s “Truffle Butter” and its invasive tempo, so I wrote my own verse to it. I won’t bore you with that. Here’s T.I. doing pretty alright. [Nah Right]

N: Selena Gomez turns up the generic synths on her Zedd-produced dance record “I Want You to Know,” which does nothing for me. [Billboard]

Y: All the desert visuals in Jess Glynne’s “Hold My Hand” video are giving me Janet Jackson’s “You Want This” (minus the choreo) and I love it. [Spin]

Y: I’m not saying I slow-danced with myself to Leon Bridges‘ “Lisa Sawyer.” I’m not saying I didn’t. Either way, his warm and scratchy vocals make this easy Sunday morning listening. [Stereogum]

Y: MNDR describes Dance 4 A Dollar, her EP with Sweet Valley, as “the soundtrack to nihilist future acid punk versions of these worlds, mixed with cough syrup and taking nods from Charles Burns’ Black Hole, Akira, and Love And Rockets.” Accurate. And good. [Stereogum]

N: Iggy Azalea appears—rapping I think—on the remix to Tinashe’s “All Hands on Deck.” Don’t need it. [Billboard]

N: This is Matt and Kim’s “Hoodie On.” It’s terrible and I refuse to go into depth about it. “I wrote this song with a hoodie on,” he raps. Sure. [Consequence of Sound]

N: “Bad Bitch” would be better as just a Jeremih song and replace French Montana with Nicki Minaj. [Miss Info]

Y: Tamia’s “Sandwich and a Soda” reads juvenile at first (she sings “Shimmy, shimmy coco puff”), but there’s a cool sway to it and her vocals sell it. I still prefer Ballad Tamia. [Singersroom]
