You Do Not, Under Any Circumstances, Gotta Hand it to Marjorie Taylor Greene

Some may find this hard to believe, but the Jewish space lasers lady may not be totally sincere about Israel.

Splinter The Left
You Do Not, Under Any Circumstances, Gotta Hand it to Marjorie Taylor Greene

I don’t know about you, but I certainly did not have Marjorie Taylor Greene splitting the left on my 2026 bingo card, yet another reminder to all the doomers out there certain of what awaits us around the corner that none of us know anything about tomorrow. If you are aghast at this development, congratulations on being one of the majority of Americans with better internet habits than where this primarily is taking place: the cesspool formerly known as Twitter.

It all began with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently criticizing Marjorie Taylor Greene (MTG), the retiring House Republican who according to four NOTUS sources, wants to run for president in 2028. MTG has conveniently found her spine just as Trump’s approval rating began plummeting like a rock, and she has become one of the administration’s fiercest critics. The QAnon adherent who thrice supported a president long known to have Epstein connections all of a sudden decided that the Epstein files were her line in the sand. Once the crazy Jewish space laser lady, MTG has now reinvented herself on the fly as the respectable MAGA lady on CNN, making eight appearances on the network between December 9th and April 15th since she announced her heel turn and retirement from Congress, saying things like “President Trump is not Jesus. He is not God.” How brave of her!

Back in November, AOC confirmed on Instagram live what the Wall Street Journal reported. “Marjorie Taylor Greene wanted to run for Senate in Georgia,” AOC told her followers. “So, she was gearing up for that statewide race, and the White House and Trump Land shut down Marjorie Taylor Greene’s personal ambitions to run for Senate, and she has been on a revenge tour ever since.”

Most people have seen this MTG turn on Trump for what it looks like, but there are very special brains out there on the internet who see someone change their core beliefs overnight, show up on CNN every other week while internal drama between her and the president leaks like the Titanic, and say ‘yes, this is obviously all an earnest change of heart and not the first rat fleeing a sinking ship she was personally rejected from.’ One of those special brains is Drop Site’s Ryan Grim, a good reporter who is quickly becoming the avatar for lefties still cooking their brains every day on Twitter. There are a lot of folks expressing this pro-MTG sentiment that’s akin to thinking professional wrestling is real, but Grim’s post here does a good job of summarizing this group’s silly argument that includes other big internet brains like the Young Turks’ Cenk Uygur.

Yes, what a tremendous sacrifice, to announce your Congressional retirement ahead of a desired 2028 presidential run while trying your hand at GOP kingmaker and calling for Tucker Carlson to run for president, all while routinely appearing on CNN as they legitimize her as MAGA America’s chief MAGA critic. MTG truly is a modern-day Christ-like figure.

To drop the sarcasm and indulge Grim’s criticism head-on, it is important to accept earnest changes of heart, but this ain’t it. I think Ronda Rousey’s extensive apology for believing Sandy Hook conspiracies is a good example of what contrition looks like, not MTG’s media blitz. That Rousey did not follow it up with routine appearances on cable news further buttressed her credibility saying that she “deserve[s] to be hated, labeled, detested, resented and worse for it,” and that “I should have been canceled.” Changing your beliefs based on new and reliable information is good, and any kind of politics that does not forgive will never win.

But come the fuck on, man. Use what’s left of your brain that Twitter hasn’t fried. In what other context would this group of lefties watch CNN and believe what the people on-screen are saying? Person who changes what they believe and then routinely appears on cable news to advertise it could be applied to Rahm Emmanuel too. Are Ryan Grim and company going to think that he is sincere in his recent shift calling for Israel’s blank check from the Pentagon to end? Or is the former Chicago mayor who helped cover up the murder of a teenager by the Chicago Police Department for his own political gain not to be trusted? What makes MTG so different?

I think it’s pretty clear what’s going on with this crew of marks who are anointing MTG the next true anti-Israel crusader, and it is that they have become so negatively polarized by Israel to such an extreme degree that all reason ceases to exist in their brain when the subject comes up. That’s the only way I can conceive of a full-time political reporter thinking that this saga looks like anything other than MTG shockingly being one of the first Republicans capable of reading the room. I think it’s pretty clear what happened with MTG’s turn against the increasingly unpopular Republican Party, and you don’t need to be a Washington insider to see it.

I also think that marinating in the antisemitic cesspool that is Twitter amplifies this unreason. We live in a world overflowing with righteous and justified anger over Israel gleefully committing a genocide and posting it to IDF TikTok pages, but it is not easy to discuss that on a platform owned by the biggest white nationalist in politics who is pushing antisemitic tropes that have existed as long as Jews have. The distorted and inaccurate way all of us in America, Jews and non-Jews alike, have been trained to talk about Israel makes it a tricky subject, but I just see a lack of any kind of nuance emanating from the crew who willingly logs into Elon’s Nazi CSAM app every day. No wonder these MTG marks can’t see why some Israel-doubting Jews like me might feel conflicted about agreeing with the stated politics of a guy with a Totenkopf tattoo.

There is also clearly a vendetta being pushed against AOC by this negatively polarized wing of the left. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is distrusted by a lot of the left because of how she lied at the Democratic National Convention on behalf of the Kamala Harris campaign, saying they “were working tirelessly for a ceasefire,” when all available reporting then demonstrated otherwise. AOC has yet to really address that, and it’s the root of a lot of well-earned distrust of her on the left.

But if you find yourself saying something along the lines of ‘MTG is sincere in her Israel criticism and AOC is not,’ I am sorry to tell you that you have terminally poisoned your brain with negative polarization. You must see everything in the UV spectrum, as your brain has clearly been trained to reject a certain kind of consensus reality maintained among liberal and lefty posters who make you mad online. It is beyond unhinged to portray a woman who defended the Jewish space lasers bullshit as recently as 20-fucking-24 as a serious Israel critic. MTG wrote an entire tongue-in-cheek chapter in her memoir about it that definitely wasn’t targeted to be released alongside a run for senator or governor, concluding “so, it turns out I actually support Jewish space lasers.”

That is trolling, not an apology. What Ronda Rousey wrote is what the latter looks like.

But to a certain kind of special brain cooked to extra crispy by the Nazi CSAM algorithm, the Jewish space lasers lady saying Israel is bad makes her good, and the woman who lied to try to win an election that irrevocably fractured America is irredeemable. I am already exhausted by the inevitable 2028 Democratic primary cycle when this group of dipshits desperate to screw this up tries to convince everyone that Ro “Elon’s favorite Democrat” Khanna is more progressive than Bernie’s not-so-subtle hand-picked successor, all because Musk starts boosting one of Congress’ best stock traders’ posts in a bid to ratfuck the 2028 Democratic primary.

This is what the road to being a useful idiot looks like, and speaking as someone who has been fighting in these internecine lefty fights since the rise of the know-nothing Assadists who supported a genocidal regime in Syria because American foreign policy is bad, it is continually dismaying to see a group of people I agree with on so many things be so easily manipulated by obvious bad faith actors. This is the problem with too much negative polarization for us on the left—when you’re defining your politics by what you oppose more than what you believe in, you can convince yourself that the Jewish space lasers lady is on your side and the democratic socialist is not. Please, log off Elon’s Twitter before it’s too late and you find yourself supporting MTG in the 2028 election.
