Zooey Deschanel Sues Steve Madden
Latest- Actress/grammatically creative indie songstress Zooey Deschanel is suing footwear knocker-offer/convicted felon Steve Madden for reneging on a $2 million contract. For that sum, Deschanel would have spent 13 days “designing” and promoting a line called “Zooey’s Shoes And Accessories.” [NYPost]
- Male model Charles Devoe, a current face of Anne Klein and Buffalo Jeans who worked with Mario Testino and Steven Klein, died suddenly. The circumstances of his death
are not publicly known, but with a spate of model suicides ongoing, there’s bound to be speculation that he took his own life.a commenter on the Fashion Spot says Devoe‘s agent, Jason Kanner, released the following statement: “It is with great pain that I confirm that Charles passed away on Friday morning. He had a tragic accident while surfing and drowned. He fought for a month, but his injury was too big to surmount.” [V Magazine] - Perhaps Kate Middleton won’t wear Bruce Oldfield at her wedding, after all — at least according to a “Royal correspondent” named Yvonne Yorke, who says Middleton is choosing a “little-known” designer. “When the name is officially announced, it will come as a surprise to many, and catapult the designer to worldwide fame. For clues on the identity, I suggest looking at those who have made dresses for Catherine, her sister Pippa, and her mother Carole.” [Vogue UK]
- Norma Kamali — a designer known for the sleeping-bag coat and for amazing swimwear — is seeking investors to fund a new line of “accessibly priced” women’s clothing. Kamali already has a namesake Wal-Mart collection and her designer line. [WWD]
- Kate Moss moved out of her old London house — the one that got burgled, and then flooded with sewage — and moved to a £7.5 million house in the neighbourhood of Highgate. Moss’s old place is on the market for £10 million. [Sun]
- Simon Le Bon, on his wife, Yasmin: “I wake up in the morning and for ten minutes or so I just get to look at her sleeping peacefully. That’s kind of all you need to know about me. I guess I’m very lucky that I picked somebody really bloody good in the first place! She’s great fun, fantastic, beautiful and we laugh all the time. It’s not always easy at all. But I really want to stay married for life.” [Vogue UK]
- Alberta Ferretti is the “guest of honor” at this season’s Pitti Uomo, and she’s announced that she’ll show her one-off collection on thirty “real women.” These “real women” include the models Carmen Dell’Orefice and Marisa Berenson, the actresses Talulah Riley, Camilla Belle, and Inés Sastre, and numerous Italian socialites, as well as “scientific researcher, a lawyer who specializes in family law, a psychologist and a blogger.” [WWD]
- Speaking of actresses and fashion, Leighton Meester is said to be the face of Missoni‘s spring campaign. “She wants to be high-end like Blake,” who’s the spring face of Chanel, says one “source.” [E!]
- Lively’s fellow Karl Lagerfeld favorite, Elisa Sednaoui, will be the spring face of Giorgio Armani. [WWD]
- Meanwhile, Marc Jacobs apparently cast the very androgynous Bosnian-Australian model Andrej Pejic alongside Latvian Ginta Lapina in his spring Marc by Marc Jacobs campaign. [WWD]
- Erin Wasson draped her nude form in body chains, dangling anklets, and thunderbird necklaces for her Low Luv jewelry line’s spring lookbook. [Style.com]
- Harrods had its best year ever in 2010. [Vogue UK]
- Sales of luxury accessories in particular are coming back strong. In 2009, sales for both luxury accessories and luxury apparel fell, but in 2010, worldwide sales in the accessories category rose 16%, double the growth rate of apparel. Really, all this proves is that there are still depressing numbers of consumers who can afford to make the choice between a $3k handbag and a $3k dress. [WWD]
- Famous six-figure-salaried fashion blogger BryanBoy reported that a suitcase containing “my chanel 2.55…dior moon boots, michael angel coat, pucci bag, finsk shoes, etc” was stolen from a locker at the Stockholm train station. After speaking with a “police lady” (“in spite of her looking like snooki”), it was determined that BryanBoy actually was looking in the wrong locker, and the bag was found. What a relief.
