Last night, the annual Teen’s Choice Awards, an event meant to celebrate your gradual decline into cultural irrelevancy, took place in Los Angeles. In the #teen spirit, there were crop tops a-plenty, many bright colors and fun shoes as far as the eye could see.
Let’s have a look:
Taylor Swift showed up wearing the same outfit she wears to the gym and to hand wads of cash to Chipotle-goers and to run to the book store (you know it: matching crop top/high waisted skirt with fun ‘n colorful shoes). As usual, she looked great.
Kim Kardashian also did a very typically-her thing: unconventional leathers, by Balmain. That is two points on Kim Kardashian Outfit Bingo. These may be some of her most unconventional leathers yet!
Here’s Selena Gomez looking very classy and fancy in a Saint Laurent suit with understated hair and makeup. It’s not the most exciting look in the world, but it’s such a departure from the stuff she’s been wearing on the red carpet recently, and she pulls it off effortlessly.
Hillary Duff channeled Lizzy McGuire with this outfit that I may have worn in 2001. APPLIQUE CROP TOP + KNEE-LENGTH SKIRT.
Ariana Grande wore a simple white Georges Chakra minidress. Her hair looks like a beautiful amber fountain cascading down in front of the Candies-emblazoned Teen Wall.
Kylie Jenner, teen, wore that style of skirt that the kids are all going crazy for these days. It’s by Sass & Bide, and it looks a bit like a detail from a Klimt painting.
Kendall Jenner went as a business-casual sexy mummy, I guess. Her garment is by Oriett Domenench. I am haunted by the sheer side-panels.
Chloe Grace Moretz wore some formal shorts + bandeau top by Valentino.
Also in formal shorts: Nina Dobrev of The Vampire Diaries, in Vionnet. I’m obsessed with this watercolor print; she looks great. It might look a little too casual with her sidebraid, but, whatever, Taylor Swift wore her gym outfit.
Pretty Little Liars’ Lucy Haleopted for a slightly-sculptural slip dress by Dior. The color looks amazing on her, as does the cut, but the shoes don’t really match.
Shay Mitchell, also of Pretty Little Liars, looks flawless. I love her ethereal bustier and skirt, and her hair and makeup are amazing. She looks like the most popular fairy in Fairy High School, which is supremely aspirational.
Hailee Steinfeld wore a sheer paneled button-up dress by Elie Saab. It’s a bit busy, especially with her heavy eye makeup, but still lovely!
ZENDAYA‘S DRESS RULES. The color, the cut-outs, the neckline, the bow — it’s all great. A++ look.
My favorites of the night: the Hunger Games‘ Willow Shields pulls of the dual-pattern look stunningly, and those pants are a thing of beauty; Faking It‘s Rita Volk is wearing the uniform of my dream space matriarchal utopia; Jordin Sparks‘ crop top and pants are bold and fun and glorious.
Sarah Hyland stuns in black and sheer and sparkles; Chelsea Kane looks lovely in a bright floral print; Twisted‘s Maddie Hasson rocks a choker like a pro.
More florals: Bella Thorne in a sculptural, princess-y by Candies; Cat Deely is very vibrant in Alberta Ferretti; Ryan Newman looks at once slinky and elegant in her more muted number.
Emily Osment, formerly of Hannah Montana, wore a demure bustier dress; Aisha Dee looked more bohemian in a loose-fitting cutout dress; McKaley Miller chose a plunging embroidered minidress.
More lovely formal pants! Cher Lloyd‘s sensual romper is absolutely glorious; Debby Ryan‘s BCBG Max Azria get-up is a bit stiff-looking, but I like her accessories; Jana Kramer‘s romper is great as well, albeit a bit more elegant.
SOME MEN: Tahj Mowry in a varsity jacket; Ian Somerhalder wearing a shirt from Abercrombie or something, Keegan Allen of Pretty Little Liars being all artsy with an old-timey camera.
