Androgynous Model Lands Major Fashion Campaign

Bosnian model Andrej Pejic — considered a “rising star” in the industry — just landed an ad campaign for Jean Paul Gaultier. With long blond hair and a square jaw, Pejic resembles Karolina Kurkova… but Pejic is a dude.

A couple of years ago, the go-to-model for androgyny was Agyness Deyn; a woman with a short crop of hair and strong bone structure. But Agyness wore makeup, was photographed nude, and often seen in party dresses: There was no doubt that she was female.

Andrej Pejic, on the other hand — as seen in these shots from Tush Magazine — keeps us guessing, man or woman? In fact, the copy accompanying this shoot, at, calls Pejic a “femme fatale.” (See more images of Pejic here.)

Does Pejic represent the evolution of the hipster? Is his look the next logical step after metrosexuality? Is he an antidote to both the ‘roided macho physique of the Jersey Shore gentlemen? Is all this related to the New York Times declaring 2010 “the year of the transsexual”? Or is it just part of the ’90s revival happening in fashion right now? While we ponder all this, we’re looking forward to seeing what kind of ad campaign Gaultier (who had Beth Ditto on his runway in October) has up his sleeve.
