Karlie Kloss Would Like to Clarify Her Politics

Earlier this month, a juicy piece of reporting from TMZ claimed that Kloss was invited to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s wedding (which is now confirmed to commence this Friday at Madison Square Garden). Before we knew there would be up to 1,000 guests at the event, the thought of Kloss being invited was understandably surprising, given the Swift lore, their Reputation-era friendship breakup, and the fact that Kloss married into the Kushner family and began rubbing elbows with Scooter Braun, with whom Swift had some bad blood at the time. But before she can be photographed with Tay at the wedding, Kloss must at least attempt a PR cleanse.

On Tuesday, Bloomberg released a puffy video segment with Kloss, in which she talked business (she has recently been buying up historic magazines like W, I-D, and Life), growing up in St. Louis, and, towards the end, all that messy political stuff. When questioned about her ties to the Trumps and “everything that comes with that,” Kloss responded: “Well, I know who I am.”

“I know the values that guide my life and the issues that I care about. So, you know, I haven’t lost sight of who I am, but also, it’s my husband’s family.” Damn in-laws! And what have those damn in-laws (Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump) been up to these days? Just buying up protected islands in the Mediterranean and profiting from the Iran war.

“Since as long as I can remember, I’ve always been exposed to a lot of different political points of view, and I think that trained me for my life. You know, I’m a Democrat,” she added. “I think it’s possible to have relationships with people who you politically don’t align with. And I think this country has always been a place for dialogue. We have to be able to talk to each other.”

The interviewer then asked whether Kloss had ever spoken with President Trump, to which Kloss responded that she had actually never met him. She went on to talk about some of the political activism she is doing in Missouri since the overturning of Roe, involving canvassing for a ballot initiative and being a Planned Parenthood escort. “This should not be political in my perspective.” As I noted when the wedding invite dropped, I think the bad blood between her and Swift is most likely water under the bridge, but the stain that her connection to the Trumps has left on her has proven difficult to wash out.
