Aubrey Plaza Is Excited for the Whole Motherhood Thing
“There is a baby inside of me right now,” Plaza announced on the Smartless podcast, and I can’t think of a more Aubrey Plaza way to say you're pregnant.

Last week, an out-of-nowhere item stopped me cold in my mid-morning scroll—Aubrey Plaza and Christopher Abbott are expecting a baby together, as announced by their reps to People. Gasp. And no, they weren’t publicly dating before this. Double gasp.
If you don’t believe me, now you can hear the news from Plaza herself, who, in an episode of the Smartless podcast on Monday, shared her pregnancy news and her excitement about motherhood.
“Well, there’s a baby inside of me,” she said. “There is a baby inside of me right now,” she added after hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes were understandably in disbelief. And I can’t think of a more Aubrey Plaza way to announce a pregnancy.
“Today was a big day,” she said, explaining that before recording the podcast, both she and her dog were attending ultrasound appointments. “She had to get an ultrasound on her stomach. And then I got an ultrasound on my stomach, and there is a baby in there.”
And while I do hope her dog is OK, I still want to hear more about the baby. When asked if she was excited for motherhood, she responded, “I am. Yeah. I’ve always wanted to see what that’s all about, you know?”
“It just seems so interesting, that whole thing,” she added. Indeed, building a human out of the mysterious powers of the uterus sure as hell is interesting!
The news of her pregnancy came just a year after Plaza’s partner of 14 years, Jeff Baena, died by suicide. It was later revealed that the couple had separated four months before his death in September 2024. After the news of Plaza and Abbott’s pregnancy and relationship, my investigation (aka Google search) concluded that they began dating sometime last summer, perhaps around the time a source for Duexmoi saw them on a date at the Chatham Berry Farm upstate, where Plaza was “rubbing his back,” and “sitting very close at a picnic table.”
Now that they’re public, Plaza joined Abbott at his premiere for the revival of Death of a Salesman, and she was also spotted out and about with her baby bump while walking with her dog, who again, seems OK, but I will be needing a month-by-month update on the dog from here on out.
