Big Surprises: Naomi Still Not Cooperating With War Crimes Prosecution
Latest- Before testifying at Charles Taylor‘s trial, Naomi Campbell has demanded accommodations normally extended to victims of atrocities. She wants the media to not film or photograph her, and she wants a lawyer to speak for her on the stand.
- And she has asked, via her lawyer, for a list of the names and addresses of every court officer who will be present, so that they can be warned about the extra security measures. Campbell is set to testify about an incident in 1996 when she allegedly received large, uncut blood diamonds from Taylor, who at the time was the president of Liberia. Prosecutors are looking to prove that Taylor used the trade in illicit diamonds to fund a bloody rebel group in neighboring Sierra Leone. [Vogue UK]
- Meanwhile, warlord and accused war criminal Taylor‘s defense lawyers have asked to delay Campbell‘s testimony because they say prosecutors have not yet disclosed what she is expected to say, and they cannot prepare a cross-examination. The prosecution says that Campbell has refused to speak to them. [UKPA]

- A new report has found that while women dominate the management workforce in the luxury sector, they are severely under-represented at the highest levels — companies that employ more than 55% women workers count just 7%-29% women board members and executives, for example. So in this respect, fashion is like every other industry on earth. [WWD]

- Although that Guardian story calls Lea “the world’s first transsexual supermodel,” she isn’t the only transgender woman to become a successful model, and nor is she the first. British model Tula, real name Caroline Cossey, worked extensively for Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and various high-end brands in the 1970s. She also posed for Playboy and was even in For Your Eyes Only before she was outed by the News of the World tabloid. [Wikipedia]
