Blake Lively's Inexplicable Fashion Reign Continues
LatestBlake Lively does her best I Dream of Jeannie impression wearing transparent harem pants on the cover of Elle Singapore’s April issue. See-through. Harem. Pants. We’re going to have to let that sink in. Just as inexplicably, Lively was also named to Time‘s list of 2011’s most influential people. [ONTD]
Otherwise, though, according to Time the fashion industry got 50% less influential in the last twelve months. In 2010, two people from the industry — Liya Kebede and Marc Jacobs — made the Time 100; this year, fashion’s sole representative is Tom Ford. This confirms how arbitrary and beside-the-point such lists are. [WWD]
If Allen Edmonds can produce hand-crafted shoes in Wisconsin and sell them for $325 a pop, Prada/Gucci/Dior/Stuart Weitzman/Jimmy Choo/Manolo Blahnik et. al. really have no fucking excuse. [NYTimes]
New famous offspring alert! Third generation famous person Tuki Brando — that’s Marlon Brando‘s grandson, in case you don’t already know — is now the (oddly piratical) face of some watch company. [WWD]
- Sophie Cranston has denied she is making Kate Middleton‘s wedding dress: “Libélula has a company policy of not commenting on any of the work they do for private clients, however due to the unprecedented media attention they would like to make the following statement: ‘For the purpose of clarification we are not designing Kate Middleton’s wedding dress. We, like everyone else, can’t wait to find out who is!'” [Telegraph]
- In! Other! Kate! Middleton! News! Would you believe that yesterday, future princess shinyhair went to Banana Republic? Amazing, right?! [Telegraph]

- There is a store in India called Coco Rocha*. And a restaurant in Bali called Coco Rocha*. *Not affiliated with Coco Rocha. [Oh So Coco]
- Model Lily Aldridge, who is believed to be marrying Kings of Leon‘s Caleb Followill next month in California, says hers will be the first wedding she’s ever attended as an adult. And the catering will be top-notch: “We’re both foodies and we cook, so there will be yummy food.” [P6]
- Speaking of models and their weddings, Rankin says he’d happily photograph Kate Moss‘s — but that she’ll probably ask Mario Testino instead. “If she did ask though, I’d tell her to get back up as well as me. I’d be so nervous, and not just because it’s her — for anyone it’s a really special day. There’s too much pressure on it and so much stress seems to surround weddings. I always say no to photographing family weddings — I’ll always set up a studio on the day but I won’t take pictures all day. You don’t want to mess it up.” [Vogue UK]
- Lauren Bush, who is engaged to David Lauren, says of the married name she’ll take, “Out of all the people I could’ve met and fallen in love with, it’s just ironic that David would end up with someone named Lauren. I think it will be Lauren Bush-Lauren. That’s not final, but I think it’s nice to have the same name as your husband. I am sort of old-fashioned in that way.” [Harper’s Bazaar]
- Theodora Richards‘ court date is today. Last month, the model/daughter-of-famous-people was arrested for tagging a building in Lower Manhattan; she was found to be in possession of marijuana and painkillers. [AP]

- Rachel Bilson shot three commercials with Karl Lagerfeld to launch Magnum ice cream in the U.S. She refers to them as “vignettes.” This interviewer is like, “Aren’t these just fancy ads?” And Rachel’s like, “Well, I guess you could say that.” [OMG Blog]
- The Times says, sorry, nobody gets to be as cool as Inès de la Fressange! Buy her book if you want, but don’t buy into the premise that anyone can be like her: “They can’t. Ms. de la Fressange is almost 6 feet tall, about 125 pounds and hipless. She has been the official model for Marianne, the ageless symbol of the French republic that appears on postage stamps and municipal buildings. She is wealthy and quadrilingual. She drinks wine and lots of strong espresso. She doesn’t diet. ‘Potatoes, chocolate, bonbons, wine, bread — I eat everything that’s good,’ she said. She is 53, but dared to pose topless for Madame Figaro magazine last year. ‘Photoshop helped,’ she said, knowing you don’t really believe her. As for exercise, she said, ‘I thought about doing it once.'” Weirdly, de la Fressange smokes, but not in front of les Américains. She even denies that the ashtrays on her desk are ashtrays. “You don’t see any ashtrays in my office! They are all art objects!” [NYTimes]
- Jane Birkin‘s Hermès Birkin bag — the one her cat sat on! — fetched $162,840 when it was auctioned. The money all goes to the British Red Cross‘s Japanese appeal. [InStyle]

- Christian Louboutin sent rugby player Gareth Thomas a pair of custom-made slip-on shoes when Thomas came out of the closet in 2009. They’ve been friends since. [Vogue UK]
- Louboutin says he is suing Yves Saint Laurent because “No one before me has ever used a coloured sole to define a brand’s identity.” Yves Saint Laurent‘s spring collection includes a group of shoes that have the same color soles and uppers — green shoes with green soles, purple shoes with purple soles, and, alarmingly to Louboutin, red shoes with red soles. Louboutin believes he has the exclusive right to use red soles. “I have the biggest respect for the house of Yves Saint Laurent. Having discussed the matter with them and not been able to reach an agreement, we have had to take this to court. My company has a trademark on the red sole and if we don’t enforce it this would leave the door open for other brands to copy us while jeopardising the identity of the Louboutin red sole.” [Fashionologie]
