Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga Got the Green Light to Remake A Star Is Born

Latest

Warner Bros has just green lit a long-percolating remake of A Star Is Born, directed by Bradley Cooper, who also plans to star with Lady Gaga. Expect to see some A C T I N G in this picture.

That’s according to Deadline. The story follows the relationship between a rising star and her “troubled lover/mentor,” who falls steadily apart as she climbs toward success. Deadline says Gaga was the only person Cooper went to after things didn’t work out with his original choice of Beyonce.

This would be Hollywood’s fourth run at this particular story. Previous versions include the 1937 original, produced by David O. Selznick and starring Janet Gaynor; an especially famous 1954 remake with James Mason, James Mason’s amazing speaking voice, and Judy Garland; and a second 1976 remake with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. There’s really no reason for yet another crack at this story, but it’s such a Hollywood tradition to rehash this one it’s hard to take any offense.

The question is, will Bradley Cooper go glamorous but troubled and even dissolute Old Hollywood?

Rock and roll?

Or some more modern spin, like a modern movie hunk paired with an American Idol-style talent competition winner? Maybe I’ll just wait for the 2032 remake featuring a wash-up YouTube star and the hot up-and-comer from a medium that hasn’t even been invented yet.
