Campy Fashion & Visible Nipples at the GLAAD Media Awards

BeautyStyle

Last night at the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles, celebrities donned their gay apparel in order to celebrate outstanding images of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community in the media. This involved ensembles in blah black, weird green camouflage, and acidic citrus yellow.

Ricky!!! Wilson Cruz added a splash of color to a midnight blue tuxedo by rocking a sorbet-colored bow tie. Alex Newell also opted for a colorful tie… And stilettos!

Filed under Fierce: Kelly Rowland. Slinky white makes her skin shine, and the nails? Pow.

In crisp, whimsical black and white: Linsey Godfrey, Shannon Woodward. Polka dot peplum? Pretty perfect!

Drenched in wine-colored fabrics: Rebecca Gayheart (with husband Eric Dane) and Cloris Leachman. Out of all three of these folks, Ms. Leachman is the one who actually seems like she’s ready to party.

Oh my God Jennifer Lawrence no more beige lipstick. I love you but no. Stop.

Also in short dresses with lacy or sheer accents: Sara Ramirez, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Kiki Dunst.

Keeping things relatively casual: Mary Steenburgen, Mae Whitman, Beth Ditto and Kristen Ogata.

Fun fact: This is not Sharon Stone heading to Studio 54 in 1979. This is Charlize Theron. Werrrrrk.

Many stars opted for the easy — but super safe — long black gown. For instance: Rumer Willis and Teri Polo. The little collar on Rumer’s dress keeps it from being too boring. While the collarbone-baring neckline of Teri’s dress is flattering, the rusching down the front is not.

Dramatic plunging necklines! Calpernia Addams, Kyle Richards. Visible nipples for the win.

Two versions of black and strapless: Heather McDonald and Kat Graham, who pulls ahead in the race thanks to that bold belt.

Finally: Some color! Dakota Hood wore pageant-ish ruffled blush pink; Ali Larter made questionable choices for an evening gala.

Turning it out in muted fleshtones: Lauren Foster, Naya Rivera.

Loving yellow for spring — I just got these sunshiney sneaekers — so these frothy lemon curd frocks on Georgia King and Sherri Saum are among my favorites.

Drew Barrymore, ever the quirky tree-hugger, channeled both Ferngully and Duck Dynasty in this Dries van Noten get-up. Later she stood next to a potted palm and literally vanished before everyone’s eyes.

Shoulders, collar, train? This Ilja Couture gown is fabulous, and when Lady Gaga wore Ilja, it was a bold and fitting extension of her outlandish persona. But when it comes to Maria Menounos? She is not wearing this gown. This gown is wearing her. The earrings are wrong, too close to the collar, and she should have piled her hair on top of her head to show off the structure of the collar. Not working. A risk that didn’t pay off.

Elle Fanning also went out on a fashion limb in a beige Lanvin gown. Even though she looks like a toilet paper cozy doll or like she’s hiding a barbecue grill under her skirt, the overall effect is fun, unique and youthful on a frankly rather safe and boring red carpet. The Jennifer Behr headband and the she’s-come-undone sash keep the look from being too stiff and perfect. She’s Alice In Wonderland goes to Paris Fashion Week.

Sweet!

My vote for best dressed? Brad Goreski. Traffic-light yellow suit with springy green tie is April, now, happy, loud and proud.
