Can You Believe?! Netflix's Queer Eye Reboot Renewed For a Second Season

Entertainment

Netflix has renewed Queer Eye for a second season, which is great because I need my fix of men-crying-which-in-turn-makes-me-cry. The critically acclaimed reboot of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy doesn’t have a release date yet, but I already know I’ll be drinking a redneck margarita when it premieres.

According to Variety, Netflix originals Nailed It!, Dope, Drug Lords, and The Toys That Made Us also received the renewal treatment. “These series elevate the genre with innovative takes on familiar formats,” said Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s vice president of content. “They deliver immersive and nuanced stories. They elicit so many emotions from viewers, from tears of laughter to tears of joy – and that’s just Queer Eye.”

I mean, true…I cried at least once per episode.

While the new Queer Eye’s goal is to focus on the fight for acceptance over the original show’s fight for tolerance, its politics got a little clumsy from time to time. For example, the show veered into egregiously questionable territory in its third episode when Karamo, Queer Eye’s culture guru and resident black man, was pulled over by a cop who nominated his buddy for a makeover as part of a fucked-up prank. Regardless, this new, contemporary, slightly less white Queer Eye feels like one of the purest reality shows on television. It’s formulaic yet endearing as hell, and I can’t wait to get into more debates on whether or not Antoni can actually cook.
