Coming Soon: A TV Show About the 'Punk Rock' 20s of William Shakespeare

You’d think that, in the four centuries since William Shakespeare kicked the bucket, every possible angle on the great bard had been exhausted. But apparently there’s still room for a Tudors-like fictionalized treatment of his wild and sexy “rock star” 20s. Can’t wait to see Shakespeare’s dick!

Deadline reports that TNT has picked up just such a series, from Baz Luhrmann collaborator Craig Pearce and starring relative unknown Laurie Davidson:

Will tells the wild story of young William Shakespeare’s (Davidson) arrival onto the punk-rock theater scene in 16th century London – the seductive, violent world where his raw talent faced rioting audiences, religious fanatics and raucous side-shows. It’s described as a contemporary version of Shakespeare’s life, played to a modern soundtrack that exposes all his recklessness, lustful temptations and brilliance.

He’s a cool Shakespeare: “Shakespeare was a 16th century rock star, and Will perfectly captures in contemporary terms what that must have felt like for the young writer and his fans,” said EVP of original programming for TNT Sarah Aubrey.

Hey, he wore an earring and everything.
