Comment of the Week: ‘So Mad That He Looks Like a Toe’

It’s been a pretty abysmal week of one alarming thing after another (with the exception of, of course, our feel-good story about old ladies clearing Cape Cod’s ponds of trash)—and, honestly, few things made me grit my teeth quite as hard as White House Communications Director Steven Cheung’s unwarranted, libelous attacks on Richard Gere. 

To catch you up to speed: comments this week resurfaced of Gere criticizing the administration for its ongoing list of unconscionables, one of which was its sweeping cuts to U.S. aid—a trend that’s negatively impacted at least 1 million women and girls; led to the deaths of several pregnant people; and allowed for a deadly Ebola outbreak. “[USAID] was a giveaway program to needy people,” Gere said. “He stopped that day one. It was insane. He wouldn’t even know what it stands for, USAID. He has idiots around him who have the same ignorance about it.”

All of which were pretty valid comments—but one that brought on an attack from Cheung, who resurfaced on Twitter a vile, falsified rumor about Gere and a gerbil. 

Which… brings us to the comment of the week. Because anyone who’s an enemy of Richard Gere is also my enemy—so, naturally, anyone who’s an enemy of an enemy of Richard Gere is also my friend. So kudos to Dump Truck, who delivered all but a scathing shut-down to Cheung’s assholery.

He’s just so mad that he looks like a toe.

I mean, I know we mocked the Trump administration for living by the adage, “When they go high, go lower than hell.” And… we still stand by that. But once in awhile, it’s nice to give ‘em the same treatment.
