Community Will Return for a Sixth Season, Thanks to Yahoo

How much agony has your soul endured since NBC announced it was canceling Community? On a scale of 1-10, 1 being the DVR accidentally deleting an episode of Cupcake Wars you promised to record for your mom and 10 being Benedict Cumberbatch announcing he is retiring from acting to run the campaign of an Arizona Tea Party candidate, where did that pain fall? Mine was about an 8.5. But there’s no need to hang your head in sorrow anymore.

Community is back, Greendale fans! Yahoo announced Monday it was bringing the series back for a eight new episodes. (Yes, I said Yahoo. It’s not just for horrifying racist comments on news articles anymore.) Pretty much everyone is coming back for the new season, according to The Hollywood Reporter, including showrunner Dan Harmon, Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Yvette Nicole Brown, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Ken Jeong and Jim Rash.

Yahoo announced in April it was going to begin production on some original programming and they have already announced two other projects:

Yahoo — which found shortform success in 2012 with The Bachelor spoof Burning Love — unveiled its first two longform projects at April’s Digital Content NewFronts in New York.Other Space, from exec producer Paul Feig (Bridesmaids), follows a ragtag group of space explorers who find an alternate universe, and Sin City Saints, from director Bryan Gordon (Curb Your Enthusiasm) and exec producer Mike Tollin (Smallville), tells the story of a Las Vegas professional basketball team. The half-hour comedies, which both have eight episode orders, build on Yahoo’s plan to build a hub for comedy content, which began in August with the announcement that it would develop eight shortform comedy series to complement its library of Saturday Night Live clips.

Harmon was cautious in his reaction to the news (COME ON DUDE, GET EXCITED). “I know fandom, when it gets this deep for this long, becomes almost religious, including the urge to stone the less than faithful,” he said. “But there are lots of reasons a Community resurrection could be difficult. So be prepared for that.”
