Somewhere on a windy mountainside, surrounded by clinking wind chimes, Vin Diesel came face to face with himself while on Facebook Live, and all he could see were blessings.
In a 25 minute video that is strangely hypnotic, Vin Diesel discussed the power of social media, answered a few questions, and stared slack-jawed into the camera as he read fans messages appearing in real time under his post. He also took a moment to speak of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, with whom he has reportedly been having a long and bitter feud with that has recently reared its ugly head on the set of Fast 8.
Diesel finally sits down after wandering on a cliff’s edge, and at about minute 10 begins talking about the franchise. While he may not apologize for any supposed rivalry, he does seem to appreciate The Rock’s abilities as an actor, saying:
The reason we brought Dwayne Johnson into Fast 5 was because of you! There was a [fan] named Jan Kelly who said, ‘I would love to see you guys work together on screen.’ So we gave the role that was originally written for Tommy Lee Jones, we gave it to Dwayne and he shined in it.
This isn’t exactly the damning exposé that Vin Diesel insinuated was coming, but perhaps he’s had time to reflect on what’s important about the Fast & Furious universe: friendship. You can watch the whole thing and think of it as a guided mediation:
