And 2006:
Man, the ladies were killing it in 2008. We’re happy to see them back! Nice to see what a difference a year makes.
By our best guess, the women onstage last night were co-executive producer Kahane Cooperman, supervising producer Jennifer Flanz, producer Jill Katz, and supervising producer Hillary Kun, all of whom have been with the show for several years at least. (Stewart was not there last night, which announcer and Daily Show contributor John Hodgman said was because he was “too busy resting in his bed of melted Emmys.”)
Also there, though not onstage, according to her Twitter: production assistant and comedian Jenna Kim Jones, who tweeted that it was her first limo ride.
Getting onstage at the Emmys has strong symbolic meaning; as we reported, Stewart refused to allow co-creator Madeleine Smithberg onstage to accept the award after she quit in 2003. And some of the past images were used by more than one commentator in the discussion around our Daily Show stories.
Whatever the reason, we’re glad to see some ladies onstage. And Kristen Schaal back on the show after a year without an appearance. Despite protestations to the contrary, maybe this all wasn’t for naught.
