Emily V. Gordon and Kumail Nanjiani Are Writing an Immigration Anthology Series for Apple
EntertainmentAmid the anti-immigration horrors occurring daily at the border and across America, Apple has decided to order a eight-episode, half-hour anthology series called Little America. The series creators are Emily V. Gordon and Kumail Nanjiani, who also wrote The Big Sick.
The project, which first went into development four months ago, will be written by Gordon and Nanjiani, as well as by Lee Eisenberg (SMILF, The Office), who will also executive produce and serve as show-runner. Master of None co-creator Alan Yang joins as another executive producer.
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s write-up of the announcement on Tuesday, Little America will be based on true stories featured in the Epic Magazine compilation—a “collective portrait of America’s immigrants”—of the same name.
This is Apple’s thirteenth series order and will, reportedly, “go beyond the headline to look at the funny, romantic, heartfelt, inspiring and surprising series of immigrants in America at a time when they are more relevant than ever.” Sounds like a worthy project if ever there was one. Looking forward to it.
