Every Woman in the World Showed Up for Maroon 5's Video for a Song About Girls
EntertainmentThere’s Tiffany Haddish, J. Lo, and Camila Cabello. There’s Ellen DeGeneres and Phoebe Robinson. Oh hey, it’s Sarah Silverman. Ah yes, Mary J. Blige. Rita Ora? Gal Gadot! Everyone!
There’s Aly Raisman.
There’s Millie Bobby Brown in tiny sunglasses.
Cardi B, bless her, drops in briefly in a mustard blazer, with a verse that injects some life into an otherwise just-fine song about women (girls) who stand by their men when they do stuff like drink too much and need to be picked up in the car.
“Girls like you run around with guys like me,” Levine sings.
Consider the bridge:
Maybe it’s 6:45
Maybe I’m barely alive
Maybe you’ve taken my shit for the last time, yeah
Maybe I know that I’m drunk
Maybe I know you’re the one
Maybe I’m thinking it’s better if you drive
Just what every woman wants. Much like Drake’s “Nice for What” video, which featured many women as Drake rapped that they didn’t have to be nice if they didn’t want to (thanks), it seems that Maroon 5 is issuing a similar statement that’s meant to be empowering.
Behati Prinsloo (Levine’s wife) and Gio Grace (his daughter) close out the video as he wraps his muscle-y, tattooed arms around their bodies and pulls them close to his chest, as if to say, “Hey guys, in the end, I’m a dad and a husband.”
