Florida Woman Can No Longer Live Off The Grid, Says Florida Town

Latest

A woman in Florida living off the grid must plug in or face the consequences, according to a legal ruling.

One woman’s epic, beautiful quest to live free from the tyranny of the municipal billing cycle has been shut down by party pooping city officials. Robin Speronis of Cape Coral, Florida first said “fuck it!” to tall those pesky bills about a year and a half ago. She now uses solar panels for power and treated rain water instead of city power and water, according to NBC 2.

“I never have to worry about that bill coming in,” she said. But “The Man” (who is now actively running shit in Cape Coral, apparently) refused to let Speronis just be groovy and enjoy her newly found freedom all that bureaucratic hassle, according to The Blaze:

Robin Speronis told WFTX-TV
that she was given an eviction notice after the station aired a story
about how she chooses to live in a home without modern amenities, such
as running water and electricity.
“A code enforcement officer came, knocked on the door then posts a
placard that says uninhabitable property, do not enter,” Robin said.

BOO!

“I’m choosing to live without being dependent on the system,” Speronis said. “I was exercising my First Amendment rights of free speech in discussing living off the grid.”

A magistrate found her guilty of not being hooked up to a proper water supply and basically says she better make herself at least a little dependent on the system.

Speronis told WFTX that she thinks the city is “pure evil” for
capping her sewer and her attorney said he wishes the city would have
found another way to settle the unpaid bills.

Speronis says she has no plans to give into “The Man” just yet:

Speronis now has a month to comply — though she has no intention of giving in. “I don’t have to justify my life. They have to. That’s the
way our system of justice works. They have justify it. I don’t,”
Speronis said.

Give ’em hell, lady. For all of us. Especially me who is still trying to decipher this MINDBOGGLING ridiculous trash and sewer bill I just got for my house. (What the holy hell is a “Sub-Maintenance Fee”????)
