Gang Member Arrested in Murder of 7-Year-Old Chicago Girl Killed While Selling Candy
LatestLast week we were introduced to the tragic story of Heaven Sutton, a seven-year-old girl who was shot and killed while selling candy and snow cones outside her Chicago home. Well, now there’s a small piece of good news in an otherwise very sad situation: Police have arrested and charged a 26-year-old gang member with Heaven’s murder. Jerrell Dorsey was arrested on Friday night as he was trying to flee police, and he’s being held without bond. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who earlier expressed outrage at the fact that gang members would shoot innocent children, had this to say about Dorsey’s arrest: “Bringing Heaven’s shooter to justice will not bring her back, but I hope it will provide some level of solace to her family.” And, indeed, it appears it has. Heaven’s mother, Ashake Banks, said, “I feel a little better. Maybe I can get a little rest tonight. It’s a start.” Banks, who had been planning to take her daughter on a vacation to Disneyland, is now busy planning Heaven’s funeral, which is set to take place at the end of this week.
