Get Ready for a Documentary About the Fucked Up Fyre Festival

Entertainment

As the first anniversary of the Fyre Festival, the most spectacular scam in recent memory, approaches, here is a spot of really thrilling news: Hulu has just acquired a multi-part docuseries about this delicious disaster, set to air in 2019.

For the uninitiated, Fyre Festival was a high-end luxury music extravaganza in the Exuma Islands, Bahamas—home of the swimmings pigs—organized by Billy McFarland, a man who not many Jezebel staffers would, and Ja Rule, a rapper from your misspent youth. McFarland enlisted influencers like Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner to promote this thing, but eventually all the acts pulled out, and the festival-goers who made it to the Bahamas were greeted with FEMA tents, cheese sandwiches, and feral dogs. Many lawsuits were filed. McFarland was charged with wire fraud. And now, finally, we get what I hope will be an Inside Edition-style docuseries featuring corny reenactments interspersed with actual footage captured by irate festival-goers who tweeted through it.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series will “uncover the truth” via interviews from a wide variety of sources, including “local Bahamians, stranded festival-goers, vendors and investors.” They’ll also have hours of never-before-seen footage, including documents, recordings, leaked emails, and whatever else they can find, in order to present a comprehensive look at how a 27-year old doofus tried and failed to get one over on rich people, his employees, and the federal government.
