Frances Ha Golden Globe nominee Greta Gerwig has been tapped to topline the comedy pilot from How I Met Your Mother‘s Carter Bays, Craig Thomas and EP Emily Spivey, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Gerwig also will be credited as a producer and, should the pilot move to series, is expected to write as well.
Starring on a network sitcom seems like a strange move for Gerwig, who’s known best for her roles in indie films like Baghead, Nights and Weekends (which she also directed) and Greenberg. That said, a girl’s got to get paid and CBS is know to offer its stars big money — money that could fund a lot of passion projects or, like, a very nice house in Napa (even Gerwig needs to kick back with a glass of wine sometimes, y’all).
Besides, things might seem a whole lot less odd when you read her How I Met Your Dad character description:
Gerwig will play the lead role of Sally, a female Peter Pan who never has grown up and has no idea where she’s going in life.
Right in Gerwig’s wheelhouse, then.
I don’t know if this news makes me want to watch How I Met Your Dad more, but it also doesn’t make me want to watch it less.
