Happy Hump Day: Poll Shows Clinton and Trump Are Essentially Tied

A new national poll of 1,610 registered voters released by Quinnipiac University found that 40 percent supported Donald Trump while 42 percent supported Hillary Clinton, with a margin of error of 2 percentage points. But listen guys! Hey! Don’t panic! It’s just a poll! Wait, where are you going? To Vancouver? Fair enough!

A June 1 poll by Quinnipiac University saw Clinton with a four-point lead over Trump—all of this suggesting that, in spite of literally everything he has done, and in spite of the fact that he has very little support among women and minorities, the waterlogged Lego figurine has managed to gain ground on his qualified opponent.

“It would be difficult to imagine a less flattering from-the-gut reaction to Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton,” Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll, said in a press release.

“This is where we are. Voters find themselves in the middle of a mean-spirited, scorched earth campaign between two candidates they don’t like. And they don’t think either candidate would be a good president.”

Polled voters said that Trump would be better at “handling ISIS” and creating jobs, while Clinton was favored on immigration, dealing with international crises, sending U.S. troops overseas, nuclear weapons, and “getting things done in Washington.”

It remains unclear what voters believe “handling ISIS” entails.
