The trailer for the much-anticipated directoral debut of Joseph Gordon-Levitt has hit the web and it’s a doozy, featuring Gordon-Levitt as “a strong, handsome, good old fashioned guy” who just happens to have a mild porn addiction. Bring. It. On.
“There’s only a few things I really care about in life,” Jon Martello aka Don Jon tells us in a voiceover in a strong accent that is supposed to be native to New Jersey. “My body, my pad, my ride, my family, my church, my boys, my girls, and my porn.” The fuller plot description is so promising:
“Jon Martello (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a strong, handsome, good old fashioned guy. His buddies call him Don Jon due to his ability to ‘pull’ a different woman every weekend, but even the finest fling doesn’t compare to the bliss he finds alone in front of the computer watching pornography. Barbara Sugarman (Scarlett Johansson) is a bright, beautiful, good old fashioned girl. Raised on romantic Hollywood movies, she’s determined to find her Prince Charming and ride off into the sunset. Wrestling with good old fashioned expectations of the opposite sex, Jon and Barbara struggle against a media culture full of false fantasies to try and find true intimacy in this unexpected comedy written and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.”
Jon will grapple with his porn issues versus Barbara’s Rom-Com issues (be sure to catch Anne Hathaway and Channing Tatum starring in the movie-within-a-movie Jon and Barbara go to see) with the help of Rob Brown of Treme, Glenne Headly (of a familiar face), Tony Danza and Julianne Moore. It’s so disappointing this movie isn’t coming out until October because it is clearly a summer jam, as evidenced by the part where JGL channels Marky Mark and dances along to “Good Vibrations.”
And in case we haven’t played up the Scarlett Johansson aspect of this movie, this is what her alter-ego looks like on social media:
