Holding Your Hand Through the Latest Chappell Roan Beef With Jude Law’s Daughter
Brazilian soccer player Jorginho posted a lengthy Instagram story callout in which he accused Roan’s security of berating his stepdaughter and his wife, Catherine Harding, for simply looking in her direction.

What do you get when you combine Jude Law’s baby mama, a Brazilian soccer player, and an 11-year-old girl in the lobby of a luxury São Paulo hotel? The latest PR attack for Chappell Roan, of course! And things got so bad that a Mayor had to get involved. It’s quite the rollercoaster, so let me hold your hand through this.
This weekend, Roan was performing at Lollapalooza Brazil when she accidentally started a beef with Jude Law’s daughter and soccer player Jorginho’s stepdaughter, Ada Law, at a hotel in São Paulo. Jorginho posted a lengthy Instagram story callout (the modern version of the 95 Theses being stamped on the church doors), in which he accused Roan’s security of berating his stepdaughter and his wife, Catherine Harding, for simply looking in her direction. What followed was even more Instagram callouts, culminating in the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro banning Roan from ever performing at the festival again.
In his callout, Jorginho wrote that “a large security guard came over to their table while they were still having breakfast and began speaking in an extremely aggressive manner to both my wife and my daughter, saying that she shouldn’t allow my daughter to ‘disrespect’ or ‘harass’ people.”

Jorginho, who was not present for the encounter, continued, “[The security guard] even said he would file a complaint against them with the hotel, while my 11-year-old daughter was sitting there in tears. My daughter was extremely shaken and cried a lot.”
He ended the rant with: “WITHOUT YOUR FANS, YOU WOULD BE NOTHING. AND TO THE FANS, SHE DOES NOT DESERVE YOUR AFFECTION.” Jesus. First of all, why is he yelling at a woman?? Second of all, he seems to believe that Roan personally ordered her security guard to chastise his daughter, even though he has no proof and wasn’t at breakfast to witness it.
The singer, never one to hold her tongue, posted a video explaining her side of the story, in which she said the security guard in question was not part of her detail and that she never even saw a woman or child in the lobby that fateful morning.
“I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children. That is crazy. I’m sorry to the mother and child that someone assumed you would do something, and if you felt uncomfortable, that makes me really sad. You did not deserve that.”
After Roan’s response, Harding posted a SIX-MINUTE VIDEO explaining her side of the story. (Because we didn’t have enough sides?!?)
“I wanted to say something because I’m getting so many messages now.” Sure. “So, 100% this security guard was not a security guard of the hotel. That’s what I can say. He looks after artists.” Her proof? Well, just trust her. “I don’t know if he was her personal security guard, but he was with her. Did she send him to do it? Again, I don’t know.”
She then went on for SIX MINUTES explaining that Roan should ensure the people working on her behalf act accordingly, and that, ultimately, it’s her responsibility as the person behind the operation. I was already on Chappell’s side (because I think this family is just overreacting to an uncomfortable security skirmish), but posting a six-minute video at sleep-podcast speed is really testing me.
The social media outrage caused the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Cavaliere, to get involved, tweeting, “I mean that as long as I’m in charge of our city, this young lady @ChappellRoan will never perform at Todo Mundo no Rio!” They banned her?? All because of Jude Law’s Baby mama?????
Roan is outspoken about paparazzi frequently breaking her boundaries, and, because of that, invites more criticism just by existing. She recently went viral for confronting paparazzi at Paris Fashion Week who followed her to a restaurant, where she shone her phone flashlight back in their faces. Hey, that’s new!
While some celebs, most recently Boy George, have argued that the invasion of privacy is simply what comes with celebrity and success, other artists have jumped to her defense, like Noah Kahan and Doja Cat, who said in a TikTok, “I love that she can be uncomfortable, comfortably, in front of people and protect herself and be honest.”
Because Roan has earned a reputation as abrasive, people think they can jump on the bandwagon and get likes for trying to put the young woman down. For shame! Everyone needs to leave Chappell alone.
Correction 3/23: An earlier version of this story wrote that Roan was headlining the Tudo Mundo no Rio festival in São Paulo. She was performing at Lollapalooza Brazil. The copy has been updated to reflect this change.
