Houston mayor Annise Parker is not only the first openly gay mayor of any major U.S. city, she was also re-elected two nights ago after having served for the past two years. That’s no small feat in any city anywhere but in Houston, Texas that’s pretty phenomenal.
Nathan Manske of I’m From Driftwood, a non-profit forum for true lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer stories, asked Parker to share a story with them and lucky for us, she said yes.
After she confirmed that the story didn’t have to be about politics or the election, she decided to tell Manske about her first love when she was just 15-years-old:
I fell in love with a girl who was a year older than I, 16. We started a torrid relationship, first love, magnetic, had to be around each other all the time. Unfortunately her mother walked in on us when we were kissing and decreed we could never see each other again, and really, some real vicious comments.
