The collaborations between comedians John Early and Kate Berlant are frequently bizarre.
For example, when they performed on The Tonight Show, their entire bit was not actually getting to do their bit. Their series for Vimeo, 555, was a dark, surrealist collection of shorts in which they played horny acting students and whining actors in the middle of alien makeovers. These are two people who once created a surprisingly moving Vine series centered around a banana phone.
And now these two weirdos are finally getting a proper television show pilot thanks to Hulu. The streaming service picked up the pilot for their show This Is Heaven, which will see Berlant and Early playing best friends Roger and Eva. And we don’t get any more details than that.
“We have been dreaming about making this show since the day we met, and we couldn’t be more eager to share it with the world,” Berlant and Early told Deadline in a statement. “It’s an honor and a privilege to be in the trades today. Though we will not tweet the link due to superstition, those who fail to widely circulate the announcement will be punished to the full extent of the law. We hope to see you soon!”
Hulu has ordered the pilot and I can’t wait to see it, because I love both Early and Berlant, but also because I don’t want to go to jail for not giving it enough attention!
