Ian McKellan Refused $1.5 Million to Officiate Sean Parker’s LOTR-Themed Wedding
CelebritiesDirt BagIn the summer of 2013, the best story on the internet was the one about Sean Parker’s horrible (and horribly tacky) Lord of the Rings-themed wedding to Alexandra Lenas. Three years after the worst costume party Silicon Valley ever birthed, it still is.
In an interview with The Daily Mail, Ian McKellan (who played Gandalf in the LOTR films) revealed that he was asked to be a part of it, but turned it down. Ever a gentleman, Sir Ian didn’t call Parker out by name when telling the story. He simply said:
“I was offered one-and-a-half million dollars to marry a very famous couple in California, which I would perhaps have considered doing but I had to go dressed as Gandalf. So I said, ‘I am sorry, Gandalf doesn’t do weddings.’”
I doubt there’s a long list of couples who would have offered $1.5 million for Gandalf to officiate their wedding, but The Daily Mail did some research and, welp:
A source told this newspaper: ‘The offer to Sir Ian to officiate was made through a mutual friend of Sir Ian’s and Sean Parker.’
Now the only question left is: Who the hell is that mutual friend?
