Trump Condemns Ilhan Omar. An Hour Later, She’s Attacked in Minnesota.

It's probably a coincidence that Trump has been attacking Ilhan Omar online every day this week, right?

Trump Condemns Ilhan Omar. An Hour Later, She’s Attacked in Minnesota.

In the turbulent news cycle that has followed the Border Patrol execution of American citizen and ICU nurse Alex Pretti in the frozen streets of Minneapolis on Saturday, Republican response has desperately searched for a way to blame the violence on Democrat rhetoric or ideology. An increasingly spooked Donald Trump and his mouthpieces have claimed that the likes of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey are to blame because they’ve criticized the swarm of federal agents in the city, inspiring Minneapolis residents to … peacefully protest and then get shot to death, apparently. But sure, let’s say the population of Minneapolis has been driven mad by Jacob Frey saying that ICE and Border Patrol agents are bad guys. In that case, surely Trump will now admit culpability for last night’s attack by a deranged man on Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar during a public town hall? After all, he spent most of the week–when he wasn’t freaking out about the Pretti shooting or punishing subordinates–slinging lies at her, including some on stage in Iowa roughly an hour or two before she was attacked. By Republican logic, he clearly deserves direct blame for the attack, right?

Well no, it turns out that Trump somehow hasn’t gotten around to claiming culpability for the attack and begging forgiveness just yet. In fact, despite being on one of his typical Truth Social benders, he hasn’t mentioned Rep. Ilhan Omar online at all in the hours since a man rushed the podium at her with a syringe, bizarrely spraying her with what the media keeps referring to as “strong-smelling liquid” of unknown origin (it now appears it was likely vinegar). Omar seemed unhurt and unfazed, insisting on staying and finishing her participation in the town hall, insisting that she is “definitely going to survive intimidation and whatever these people think they can throw at me, because I’m built that way.” Still, it was a scary moment–one’s mind goes to the prevalence of acid attacks in the southeast Asia, the Middle East and even the U.K., a type of violence disproportionately directed against women and girls by conservative attackers. Omar’s attacker has subsequently been identified as 55-year-old Anthony J. Kazmierczak according to the Minneapolis PD, and social media history showed that Kazmierczak had posted about Omar for years, echoing Trump’s talking points. He also apparently told a neighbor earlier in the week that he would be going to the Omar town hall, and that he “might get arrested.” He’s subsequently been charged with assault.

On Monday, perhaps 30 hours before Omar was attacked in her town hall, Trump was posting away about her on Truth Social, claiming that the Department of Justice was—presumably under his direct order, in deeply unconstitutional fashion—investigating Rep. Omar, attempting to link her to billions of dollars in very real financial fraud in the state of Minnesota thanks to her Somalian heritage. He claimed that she had come to the U.S. penniless and was now worth “$44 million,” failing of course to mention that this figure is culled from the highest possible estimate of not Omar’s wealth but that of her husband Tim Mynett’s venture capital management firm and winery. Apparently it’s a crime for a woman from Somalia (she became a U.S. citizen 25 years ago, at the age of 17) to marry a successful U.S. businessman.

Of course, that’s just the tip of the accusations and lies that Trump has peddled about Omar going all the way back to his first term as President. He’s constantly claimed that she “hates the USA,” and said she should be deported without providing any reasoning why beyond personal vengeance, in reference to a woman who survived civil war and years in refugee camps to get here. He’s even fixated on her previous first marriage, claiming repeatedly over the years that she had “married her brother” in order to get citizenship despite that being patently and provably false. All the while, his own approval rating is lurching down to new second term lows.

Reached by ABC News following the attack, Trump decided to go full tinfoil hat and throw fuel on the conspiracy fires, saying that he hadn’t seen the video of the incident with Rep. Ilhan Omar, but immediately implied it was a hoax anyway. Trump—who I might remind you, is the President of the United States of America—reportedly said the following: “No. I don’t think about her. I think she’s a fraud. I really don’t think about that. She probably had herself sprayed, knowing her.”

Ah yes, she “probably had herself sprayed,” of course. It was all brilliantly planned out to utilize a man who had been posting negatively about her in advance for years upon years, all so he could participate in a Democrat false flag syringe spraying operation, immediately after Trump also publicly attacks Omar, before being arrested and held without bail. Seems reasonable. In no way does that evoke the same GOP compulsion to immediately make shit up in the wake of breaking news that was saw in the first hours after the Alex Pretti shooting, when Stephen Miller, Kristi Noem and Gregory Bovino immediately began pushing the concocted narrative that Pretti was a “domestic terrorist” who wanted to “massacre” law enforcement. They just can’t help themselves, folks—lying is what comes most naturally and compulsively to them.

In the moments before Anthony J. Kazmierczak rushed the speaker’s podium, Rep. Ilhan Omar had condemned the swarm of jackbooted immigration thugs terrorizing Minnesota citizens, called for the abolishment of ICE, and said that Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem should immediately resign or face impeachment from Congress. She likewise praised the resilience of Minnesota residents who had braved subzero conditions to make their united defiance of ICE and Trump heard, saying “Minnesotans are showing up for one another in ways that people didn’t expect. We are showing the country and the world what real solitary looks like. And we should be goddamn proud of ourselves.”

She has proven, repeatedly and with more grace than most of us could probably muster, that she is one of the bravest people serving in the political arena today. Here’s hoping that Rep. Omar is prepared to suffer even more indignities and endure even more danger as she continues to serve her constituents.

I’m ok. I’m a survivor so this small agitator isn’t going to intimidate me from doing my work.

I don’t let bullies win.

Grateful to my incredible constituents who rallied behind me. Minnesota strong.
