John Kelly, Whose Boss Is Donald Trump, Reportedly Believes That Women Are More Emotional Than Men
NewsPoliticsThis does dovetail nicely with the White House’s unwritten policy of maintaining positions that directly contradict basic fact and reasoning.
Here’s all the shit we couldn’t cover today:
- White House Chief of Staff John Kelly has said that women are more emotional than men, staffers told NBC News. That is an interesting thing to think while working under perhaps the most emotional man this planet has ever seen—and alongside women like Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Kellyanne Conway, who display so little emotion that it is often alarming to hear them speak. [NBC]
- He also “wondered aloud,” according to these sources, “how much more [Rob] Porter would have to endure before his honor could be restored.” [NBC]
- You know what, here’s a whole paragraph: “The White House spokespeople said they haven’t seen Kelly have a negative effect on the morale of women staffers. If anything, they said during meetings Kelly is the ‘bigger gentleman’ who steps in when aides use foul language to note ‘a lady is present’ and similarly says he shouldn’t use foul language in front of a lady if he’s used an expletive. The spokespeople, who would not speak for the record, said it’s possible Kelly may have said women are more emotional than men, with one of them agreeing that ‘generally speaking, women are more emotional than men.’” Help!!!!! [NBC]
- We haven’t even reached the big scoop of this story, which is that John Kelly reportedly called his boss an “idiot.” Takes one to know one, I guess, ha ha! [NBC]
- In case there is any remaining part of you that sees John Kelly as some kind of moderating influence on the president, NBC also reports that he takes credit for the collapse of the bipartisan DACA deal. [NBC]
- In excerpts from an upcoming interview with Terry Gross on NPR’s Fresh Air, comedian Michelle Wolf jabbed back against criticism of her Correspondents Dinner performance. Wolf noted that Sarah Huckabee Sanders sat while reporters received awards as everyone else stood up to applaud. “I would say if this is about celebrating the media she wasn’t there to celebrate the media.” [NPR]
- Marco Rubio is having some second thoughts about those tax cuts he voted for, telling The Economist: “there’s no evidence whatsoever that the money’s been massively poured back into the American worker.” [The Economist]
Here are some tweets the President was allowed to publish:
