Julianna Margulies Irritated By "Asshole" TV Execs

Latest

There are very few one-hour dramas in which a woman is the star. But Julianna Margulies is the sole lead on The Good Wife, which will be entering its third season in the fall. Yet Margulies thinks the networks have serious issues when it comes to handling female-oriented shows.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Margulies rants:

“I don’t understand executives that pit women against each other, the fact that they brought in Body of Proof, Dana Delaney is a friend of mine, and the two of us were just rolling our eyes, it’s like, of course, you finally have two great female leads and you’re going to put us on against each other,” Margulies said. “You’re assholes. You should have put them on against a different show to see where they go, and then in the end, it was split down the middle. It’s the feeling that you want to celebrate not de-calibrate.”

How can TV shows with a female lead find success if the audience is being forced to choose between them? The truth is, we don’t just need shows with female stars — we need women in the boardroom making executive decisions, to help the shows reach the audience we all know is there.
