According to CBS News, drowning is the “third leading cause of death among children under the age of one,” which is why Dena Blum-Rothman is teaching kids like Erin Terry to swim—even in snowsuits. As a mother myself, I’d be very nervous to see my son in a pool without someone holding him. But Blum-Rothman explains that learning this skill is fun for the little ones and more about the child’s safety in case of an emergency than a parent’s fear. Also, as one dad says, I need to get the fuck over myself.
