Let's Cry Together to John Legend and Sam Smith's 'Lay Me Down' Duet

Entertainment

This John Legend and Sam Smith duet of “Lay Me Down” just might be the most emo song ever created. One, because it’s Sam Smith. Two, because it’s John Legend. Three, because it’s for charity.

The song, which originally appears on Sam Smith’s In the Lonely Hour album, was remade in partnership with Comic Relief for Red Nose Day, with all profits and royalties going to Comic Relief. The video above shows Smith and Legend in the studio, along with scenes of families in Africa who’ve benefited from the organization’s proceeds.

Sam Smith said in a statement:

“‘Lay Me Down’ holds a very special place in my heart. Not only did I perform it at the Brits, I’m now going to perform it live on the Red Nose Day show with the extremely talented John Legend, which is so exciting. I recently visited a Comic Relief funded project in my hometown, which supports the young LGBT community in London. I’m extremely proud that my single will help raise money for projects like this and many others in the U.K. and across Africa.”

Now go empty your tear ducts.
