Long-Lost Siblings Reconnect After Flirting On Tinder

If you thought that an unsolicited dick pic was the worst thing that could happen to you on Tinder, think again. Imagine if that unsolicited dick pic came from your long-lost brother who swiped right after thinking you were a super cute groovy chick down for a good time and possibly more? 😉

Erik de Vries and Josephine Egberts were ripped apart in 1999 when their parents split. de Vries’ father took him to live in Belgium and Egberts stayed with her mother in The Netherlands. Soon, the siblings lost contact with each other and didn’t reconnect until they both thought the other was attractive on Tinder.

From Mic:

De Vries, now 24, eventually moved back to the Netherlands for school, and in March, like any other young adult, joined Tinder and started swiping.
“The first time I swiped her profile I had absolutely no idea,” de Vries told Mic. “To be honest, it hasn’t been on my mind in the past few years after Maarten, my brother, and I finished a failed search for Josephine a few years ago.”
And yet he happened to swipe right, assuming Egberts was just a nice stranger. So de Vries started talking to her like anyone else. “In our first conversation I was actually flirting with her so the conversation was very superficial,” he said.

That has got to be awkward in retrospect, even if Europeans are more open about love and sex like everyone keeps telling me. And especially if either of the siblings was more into the other than the other sibling was into them. But that’s a secret they’ll probably never share with the world.

Mic reports that de Vries began suspecting that Egberts might be his sister so he stopped talking to her for a while but then curiosity got the best of him and he just had to know whether the woman he had flirted with might be the sister he had left behind.

The two exchanged stories about their pasts — parents with a rocky divorce, long lost siblings — and soon realized: They were brother and sister.
“The fact that we had a lost sister and she had lost her twin brothers did give her suspicion as well,” de Vries said. According to the NL Times, the two siblings met up a week later.

The pair are now happily reunited and Mic points out that this is a warm and fuzzy story amidst the horrors that we usually read about Tinder, which is definitely nice, but they’re still both very, very single.
