Marianne Williamson Is One Step Closer to Manifesting Herself a Place at the Democratic Debates
NewsPoliticsGet ready y’all, because the upcoming Democratic primary debates just got a whole lot more fun: Oprah’s favorite spiritual guide and presidential candidate Marianne Williamson will be up on stage.
As Politico reported on Thursday, the bestselling author has reached the donation threshold set by the Democratic National Committee to be invited to the debates, which will take place later this summer in Miami and Detroit. There is, however, an asterisk—due to the ridiculously large number of people running, she may have to also meet the other threshold set by the DNC, which would require her to have the support of a minimum of one percent of voters in three separate polls. Per Politico:
But because there are 20 slots on the debate stage and 21 Democrats have already launched campaigns, it is possible candidates might need to meet both requirements before they can appear.
Still yet to qualify under either criteria are Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Co.), Florida Mayor Wayne Messam and Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.). Montana Gov. Steve Bullock and New York Mayor Bill de Blasio are still weighing runs.
The Democratic primary debates might actually be… fun? Do I have Stockholm Syndrome? Maybe I’m just a masochist, but I can’t wait to see Williamson up on stage talking about the need for reparations and impersonating a malignant cell.
