Ever wondered what Destiny’s Child’s meteoric rise was like… for Beyoncé’s dad, Mathew Knowles? Well, he’s about to spill it.
Knowles, the group’s former manager, will make another attempt to share his version of the Destiny’s Child story in a musical, according to Rolling Stone:
“‘I want to pull back the curtain,” Knowles said in a statement on his website. “I feel it’s time to give the world an opportunity to hear, see and feel the victories and failures that I’ve had as a husband, father and manager who risked everything in pursuit of fulfilling dreams – those of mine and others.’”
The project is titled Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical. It’s unclear if any of Destiny’s actual children—Beyoncé, Michelle Williams, and Kelly Rowland, or ousted members LaTavia Roberson, LeToya Luckett, and Farrah Franklin—have any involvement in the musical, set to premiere in Houston in 2020, with plans to move to Broadway and London’s West End.
Knowles is working on the project with director, writer and, producer Je’Caryous Johnson, whose other works include Redemption of a Dogg, starring Snoop Dogg and Tamar Braxton, and Set It Off Live, based on the film of the same name.
