Miley Cyrus Totally Didn't Diss Rebecca Black

Latest

Miley Cyrus experienced a bit of a backlash after she reportedly said of Rebecca Black, “It should be harder to be an artist. You shouldn’t just be able to put a song on YouTube and go out on tour.”

Now Miley has clarified her statement to E!, explaining that she wasn’t hating on the artist behind the masterpiece “Friday.” “I am a fan of Rebecca Black,” says Miley. “I love Rebecca Black. I just got misquoted. I think she’s great.” How convenient!

To be fair, it’s unclear how the question was worded in the original interview with Australia’s Daily Telegraph. From the article:

Catapulted to fame off the back of Disney’s Hannah Montana, Cyrus slammed the overnight success of YouTube phenomenons such as Rebecca Black.
“It should be harder to be an artist. You shouldn’t just be able to put a song on YouTube and go out on tour,” the daughter of country star Billy Ray Cyrus said.

As the quip was encased by mentions of Hanna Montana and Billy Ray, we’re guessing the irony of Miley’s comment wasn’t lost on Telegraph reporter Kathy McCabe. Miley didn’t explain what she meant to say (or if she did intend to attack other YouTube stars like the Bieb), but she continued to smooth things over by adding,

“I actually have this really embarrassing video that my sister has on her phone, and I’m just waiting till the day that she puts it on YouTube. It’s me driving, singing Rebecca Black and my hands are not always on the wheel while I’m singing the song. Not so good.”

Miley probably won’t have to wait long for the video to show up on YouTube, if this doesn’t put an end to her manufactured “feud” with Rebecca Black.

Even if Miley did make a bratty comment about Black, we’ll assume she hasn’t been expending much mental energy on her hatred of a 13-year-old YouTube star. However, for everyone keeping tabs on the rapid downfall of our society, it is interesting to note that stars are now expected to have an opinion on a girl who adequately performed an intensely bland song and posted it on the internet.
