More Royal Content Is Coming Your Way in the Form of a Catherine of Aragon Limited Series
EntertainmentIf you have finished binging The Crown, there are about a million other places you can turn for stories about British Royal family drama. But why not one more from Starz, based on the life of Catherine of Aragon.
The network is adapting Philippa Gregory’s books The Constant Princess and The King’s Curse, which tell the story of Henry VIII’s first wife, Catherine. He eventually annulled their married so he could shack up with the infamous Anne Boleyn, but she never recognized their divorce, considering herself his rightful Queen. The special limited series is titled The Spanish Princess, and Variety reports that there will be discussions about hymens in this:
The series follows Catherine of Aragon, the beautiful teenaged princess of Spain who was promised the English throne since she was a child. She arrives in England with her court including her lady-in-waiting Lina, an African Moor. She is Princess of Wales now, but when her husband Prince Arthur dies suddenly, the throne seems lost to Catherine. Until she claims her marriage was never consummated and that as a virgin she may set her sights on the new heir, the charismatic and headstrong Prince Harry who will one day rule as King Henry VIII.
Gregory has a real flair for the sexy and wild, so I’m betting this will be exactly the kind of trashy historical drama we’re all craving. I will never be satiated. Luckily, Henry VIII had a bunch more wives to make spin-offs about, as Starz will discover if Catherine does well.
