Before the show, he said, “There’s one main reference and it’s Barbie. I’m taking her through her day to evening. She is quite famous for having a lot of looks – rollerskating looks, jogging looks, every look — she’s an institution.” He continued, “There are no other references because she encompasses everything. She’s had every job. She’s even been an astronaut. Barbie basically is the full package — plus she loves an evening dress which is very important for Moschino.”
And the show was really a testament to the doll’s sartorial versatility: it featured everything from swimwear to loungewear to exercise wear (feat. roller skates!) to business attire to evening gowns, etc. etc. It was pure, campy fun: some of the interpretations were quite literal. And it will available online by Sunday, so I’m sure the accessories — especially the Barbie mirror iPhone case — will become ubiquitous in the blink of an eye.
