In the wake of Lifetime’s Surviving R. Kelly docuseries, the public call for institutions that have supported R. Kelly in the past to take action has grown louder and louder.
On Wednesday, dozens of protestors rallied outside RCA Records’s New York City office to demand that the label drop R. Kelly from its roster. Jezebel and The Root stopped by the “Rally to Protect Black Girls” to speak with representatives from the organizing groups: Color of Change, Girls for Gender Equity, the New York City chapter of the National Organization for Women, Black Women’s Blueprint, A Long Walk Home, CREDO Mobile and women’s organization UltraViolet.
Watch the video above to hear their perspective on how the music industry has been complicit in R. Kelly’s behavior and what they think accountability looks like.
