The Seattle-area Suquamish Tribe formally approved same-sex marriage this month. In contrast to the climate of the nation as a whole, this decision proved uncontroversial. Says the tribal chairman, “It was an important statement, but it wasn’t one that was a real struggle to make. We really saw this as a housekeeping issue.”
